This article is a reminder of important information regarding allocation trade closing and opening times for June and July 2025.  For further information or assistance, reach out to the Victorian Water Register team on waterregister.support@delwp.vic.gov.au

2024–25: Allocation trade closing times

The Victorian Water Register, including MyWater and the Broker Portal, will close for 2024–25 end-of-year (EOY) processing at 12 noon Monday 30 June 2025.  

Online applications to trade allocation within Victoria must be submitted by 12 noon on 30 June 2025 for processing in the 2024–25 water year. 

Paper-based applications to trade allocation within Victoria must be lodged with the relevant water corporation by 5 pm on 20 June 2025. There is no guarantee that applications submitted after this time will be processed in the 2024–25 water year. 

All applications to trade allocation interstate (where Victoria is involved), including those lodged online, will be processed manually from 5 pm on 26 June 2025. Note the final date for guaranteed processing of interstate allocation trades in the 2024-25 water year has passed (this was 5 pm 16 June 2025).

2025–26: Allocation trade opening times  

The Victorian Water Register, including My Water and the Broker Portal, will open for the commencement of the 2025–26 water year at 9 am on Tuesday 1 July 2025

All trade applications will be processed as normal from this time, except for allocation trade applications in these categories described below: 

  • The Broken Trade Out and NSW to Vic allocation trade opportunities open at 10 am on Tuesday 1 July 2025. These openings will proceed with a first in, first served approach with automated processing of applications. 
  • The MDBA Barmah and Goulburn-to-Murray allocation trade opportunities open for a 7-hour submission window on Wednesday 2 July 2025 from 7 am to 2 pm.   
  • All allocation trade applications, involving Victoria, received in the submission window, will be manually processed.  
  • After 2 pm on Wednesday 2 July, all My Water and Broker Portal operations will return to normal processes, except for Barmah and Goulburn-to-Murray trade applications which will continue to be manually processed.  
  • Eligible Barmah and Goulburn-to-Murray applications submitted during the submission window will be randomised to create an order for manual processing starting Thursday 3 July.   
  • Any Barmah or Goulburn-to-Murray trade applications received after the submission window closes at 2 pm on 2 July 2025 but prior to the resumption of automated processing, will be referred for manual processing after processing of applications received in the submission window concludes.   

It is currently expected that manual processing of Barmah or Goulburn-to-Murray trade applications will conclude on the afternoon or evening of Thursday 3 July 2025. At this time the Victorian Water Register will be closed for 30 minutes prior to the resumption of automated trade processing for trading zones affected by the Barmah and Goulburn-to-Murray trade openings. A notice will be posted on the Victorian Water Register website prior to this closure or in the event the expected time changes.
